SUPER TROOPERS 2

by Groovinator, The Cynical Cyborg

So I don’t get out to the movies as much, because mostly I just don’t care. Screwball comedies are usually lowest on my priority list as they usually show all the best stuff in the trailer, and end on a very forced out take reel. The original Super Troopers is one of those where I went in not expecting much, and was pleasantly surprised at how cool it was. I genuinely laughed pretty good, and enjoyed it. When I first heard about this one, I thought, yeah…might go see it, might stay home and clip my fingernails who knows? It came out and reviews were mixed…so I passed. That’s another thing. When was the last time, that a screwball comedy was REALLY loved by all? Wrap that around your noggin’! Anyways, I decided to rent. This one, I smartly avoided all of the trailers, and went in once again with literally no expectations other than maybe a smile or an occasional giggle. Once again I was pleasantly surprised. While it took a good 20 minutes to get going, the chuckles started rolling in once Farva (Kevin Heffernan) shows up. What makes these movies work, is the comedic timing of the Broken Lizard line up. Pacing of the jokes is near perfect, in spite of said joke.

Our once State Troopers have been thrown off the force for reasons I will save for spoiler territory. The plot revolves around our cast getting a provisional second chance at law enforcement. See, in Vermont, there is the matter of a mix up between the border of Canada and the United States. The area in question must convert from Canada to the United States which sets up a monkey bag of Canadian Jokes. Now this is where the mixed bag comes in. Many of these jokes are very insider to people that live in, near, or know Canadians . Depending on your knowledge, your mileage may very. Me personally, I know a few Canadians, and one thing for sure, is that nobody likes to make fun of Canadians more than other Canadians, or maybe the guys I know are just insensitive assholes. Who knows? Point is, I got most of the jokes. Maybe a few flew over my head, but the timing was still as spot on as the first movie. As much as I would love to share some of these jokes, I feel I would be robbing you of an experience.

This is a Broken Lizard film, so yes, there WILL be dick and fart jokes. There will be nudity. There may be some things that involve animals. And beware of Rob Lowe is who is always awesome in comedies. The entire thing is glued together with music from The Eagles of Death Metal. The closing out takes I believe are genuine out takes, as the best stuff was actually in the movie. I laughed a lot more than I thought I would, and I had a damn good time. I may even buy it for my collection. I am giving this one 4 out of 5 cheese curds!
